Strike Vote Results and Quick Mediation Update
An historic number of our members took part in our recent strike vote with 93% of participants voting yes. Thousands of us stood together in solidarity and our bargaining team couldn’t be prouder of the work our membership and staff did to make this happen.
Our bargaining unit continues to grow every year, so this becomes a bigger and bigger task every time we go to the ballot box. With more than 8500 members in over 300 job classifications, it’s a heavy lift to reach everyone. It was a group effort that took every single one of you - whether it was just casting your own vote, tabling to take votes and answer questions, or talking to your coworkers to make sure they’d voted.
There will be a proper mediation update tomorrow once we have a copy of the language that was discussed with management today. They have given us more than 30 pages of tentative agreements that they have pulled off of the main economic proposal, including a few places where they agreed to more than was discussed in our previous pass.
I truly believe this movement was due to seeing our strength and their desire to wrap up the campaign before the temperature gets any hotter.
We’ll have full details here as soon as possible.
