Statement from the AFSCME Local 328 Executive Board

— Statement from the AFSCME Local 328 Executive Board on the deaths related to federal enforcement violence —

Silence is no longer acceptable. The AFSCME Local 328 Executive Board unequivocally condemns the most recent fatal shootings of Alex Pretti on January 24 and Renee Good on January 7 in Minneapolis—both killed by federal immigration agents during enforcement actions. These tragic deaths have shaken communities, torn families apart, and sparked national outrage.

We mourn Alex and Renee, and we grieve with all families who have lost loved ones while in federal custody or as a result of enforcement operations. Their deaths stress the urgent need for accountability, transparency, and a fundamental re-evaluation of how federal force is used in our communities.

We stand in solidarity with our immigrant colleagues, community members, and all healthcare workers who uphold their code of ethics every day, defending human dignity both on and off the job while advocating for democracy and the constitutional rights guaranteed under the First through Fourth Amendments.

The AFSCME Local 328 Executive Board demands an independent, transparent investigation into these deaths and all federal enforcement operations that have resulted in loss of life. We call on every member of the OHSU community—and all people of conscience—to contact their legislators, demand justice, and speak out loudly and persistently. We must ensure that our workplaces, our civic spaces, and our communities are safe and free from violence.

We honor the victims by refusing to let their deaths go unanswered.
