JOHN OGBURN SERVICE - AFSCME Council 75 Exucutive Director Ken llen and Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski were among those in Ontario on Friday, June 3rd for the military funeral for Oregon National Guard Sgt. John Ogburn.
As reported last week, Ogburn, a corrections officer and member of Local 3940 at Snake River Correctional Institution, was killed in Iraq on May 22. At AFSCME’s urging, Kulongoski ordered flags throughout the state lowered to half-staff on May 25, and flags have remained lowered at SRCI. They will revert to regular display following Ogburn’s interment today.
The Oregon AFSCME contingent at Ogburn’s service will include many co-workers and colleagues from SRCI and Local 3940, plus Allen, Council 75 Field Services Director Rick Henson, Corrections Coordinator Randy Ridderbusch and 1st Vice President Tina Turner-Morfitt. Turner-Morfitt is also a fellow Department of Corrections employee; she is a counselor at the state Intake Center at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville. DOC Director Max Williams is among the state officials attending.
