AFSCME Local 328 is again sponsoring a volunteer night at the Oregon Food Bank. The event will be held Thursday, March 21, from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at OFB's Portland Volunteer Action Center, located at 7900 NE 33rd Dr. -- a few blocks north of Columbia Blvd. TriMet route #73 stops directly across from the center. Anyone interested in volunteering should email Theresia Lloyd-Siemer at theresialloyd@gmail.com. (Volunteers should arrive 15 minutes before their shift to sign in and undergo a brief orientation.) Here are some general guidelines about volunteering at OFB: - Tasks involve standing, squatting, lifting and pulling. OFB can accommodate most physical limitations if you notify them ahead of time re: any special needs.
- For safety reasons, be sure to wear sturdy, closed-toed/-heel shoes. Open-toed/-heel shoes and high heels are not allowed. Volunteers will not be able to participate without proper footwear.
- Volunteers should dress appropriately. The environment is extremely cool -- layers are recommended.
- OFB has a zero-tolerance theft policy.
- The minimum age for volunteering is 6. This requirement is not flexible.
- Youth release forms are required for any volunteer under 18.
- No food, beverage, gum or candy may be consumed in the volunteer work areas.
- Do not attend if you feel sick or have a cough, runny nose, flu-like symptoms, open wounds, or food-borne illness.
