It has been a long-time goal of AFSCME Local to see a labor seat on OHSU's Board of Directors. A labor seat would give OHSU's board a perspective that has been missing -- that of the front-line worker. It is important that OHSU's board has an understanding of how its decisions affect the people who provide quality service and compassionate care on OHSU's behalf on a daily basis. It is our great pleasure to announce that Gov. John Kitzhaber has appointed AFSCME Council 75 Executive Director Ken Allen to the OHSU Board of Directors. This union could not ask for a better person to represent it on OHSU's board. Ken just completed working with the governor on Oregon's health exchange. He is a fierce defender of working families, union and non-union alike. He has over 30 years' experience as a union leader. Under Ken's leadership, Council 75 has become one of the most innovative, forward-thinking and member-centered councils in AFSCME. We will now have a strong, innovative leader as our voice on OHSU's board.
